Haemorrhoids are soft fleshy lumps occurring inside and around the anus(back passage). It is also known as piles and causes symptoms such as bleeding (bright red blood), some itchiness, pain and discomfort. It may not cause big problem of your life but if you notice blood when you have a bowel motion, it is strongly recommended to get checked out by a doctor since the symptom is similar to a bowel cancer.
Study shows that it is a safe and effective method of treating internal haemorrohoids combining with colonoscopy procedure. Banding and Injection is a safe and effective way of treating haemorrhoids. The procedure is convenient for both doctors (Gastroenterologists) and patient making more efficient use of time and resources. CDS offers both banding and injection treatment combing while Colonoscopy procedure is conducted.
Haemorrhoid Banding
Banding is usually a safe and effective way of treating haemorrohoids. Haemorrohoid Banding is also known as Rubber Band Ligation and designed to cut off blood supply and flatten the haemorrohids by applying the elastic bands to the base of haemorrhoids. The ligated hemorrhoid, along with the rubber band, typically falls off within 4 to 8 days, and the wound left by the detached hemorrhoid heals naturally.
This procedure is not applied to cases of severe external hemorrhoids or first-degree internal hemorrhoids with only bleeding and no prolapse. It is mainly used for the treatment of second- and third-degree internal hemorrhoids. However, if the hemorrhoid is too small, the rubber band may slip off, making the procedure most suitable for internal hemorrhoids of approximately 1 cm in size, where the ligator can securely bind them.
In general, hemorrhoid Rubber Band Ligation is a safe procedure with a short operation time and rare complications. However, in some cases, the following issues may occur:
Severe pain that does not subside with medication or other measures. Intense pain may be experienced if the rubber band is placed too close to the pain receptors in the anal canal.
Anal bleeding
Difficulty in urination
Fever and chills
Recurrence of hemorrhoids
Haemorrhoid Injection
Injection is an alternative way of treating Haemorrhoid to Haemorrhoid banding. A chemical solution is injected into the area around the haemorrhoid. It reduces the blood supply to the haemorrhoid and hardends the tissue of the haemorrhoid which leads shrink and shrivel of blood vessels in the haemorrhoids in a few week time.
