Where your health and comfort are our top priorities. We understand that undergoing any medical procedure can be a stressful experience. Our dedicated team is here to guide and support you through every step of your journey.
Getting ready for your procedure
- Obtain a referral from your gp: You will first need a referral from your gp for any procedure. This referral provides us with important information about your health and helps our team prepare for your specific needs.
- Once you have a referral, contact us to schedule a suitable date and time for your procedure. Our staff will guide you through the process and answer any initial questions you may have.
- After booking your appointment, our team will provide you with a comprehensive patient preparation guide. This guide will outline the steps you need to take before your procedure, including dietary instructions, fasting requirements, and any other necessary preparations.
- To ensure we have an accurate understanding of your health, we ask that you complete a medical history form and a patient information form. These forms will be provided to you, and you can also download them from here. It is important that we have a complete list of all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications. Please include the name and dosage of each medication on the medical history form or inform our staff during pre-procedure consultation or admission.
Expected times
- Upon your arrival, our reception staff will guide you through the check-in process, updating your records and handling necessary paperworks. Please have your insurance information and other relevant documents readily available
- Admission nurse will gather your medical history and perform routine observations including checking your vital signs.
- Sedationist will meet with you before your procedure that allows you to discuss any concerns.
- The procedure itself will typically last between 15 to 45 minutes. Afterward you will be taken to the recovery room, where our caring staff will monitor you and provide any necessary pain relief. Your total recovery time is expected to be approximately one hour.

What to expect during your procedure
For endoscopic procedures, you will be given a sedative through an IV line to help you relax and remain comfortable throughout. You may feel some mild pressure or cramping sensations as the endoscope is inserted, but the sedation will ensure you don’t experience significant discomfort. You’ll be monitored closely throughout the procedure and in a recovery until the sedation has worn off enough for you to be discharged home.
Discharge
While recovering after your procedure, light refreshments will be offered. The doctor who performed your procedure will discuss the preliminary findings with you before you go home and provide you with a prescription or referral for any additional testing needed. Prior to discharge, the recovery nurse will review the discharge instructions with you, including dietary guidelines and precautions to take. These will also be included in the discharge instructions you received at admission. Some key points to note:
- Before you are discharged, our staff will contact whoever is picking you up. You can take a taxi or rideshare, but only if accompanied by an adult.
- For 24 hours after discharge, you should avoid driving, drinking alcohol, operating dangerous machinery, and making important decisions.
If you have any lingering concerns or questions, please discuss them with our staff before being discharged.
We want to ensure you have all the information needed for a smooth recovery at home after your procedure. Our team is here to address any queries before you leave our facility.
Post discharge
After your procedure, it’s important to get ample rest to aid in a full and quick recovery. Some patients may experience mild discomfort such as bloating, sour stomach, or light bleeding from the bowel, which are normal and should subside within a day or two. However you should seek immadiate medical attention if you experience any of the following:
- Severe abdominal pain that doesn’t improve with medication
- Rectal bleeding that is prolonged or heavy
- Persistent nausea/vomiting
These could indicate a complication that requires prompt evaluation. Don’t hesitate to go to your nearest emergency room, especially if your symptoms are worsening or cause you significant concern after leaving our facility.
Proper rest and following post-procedure precautions are key for an uneventful recovery. However, we want you to seek care right away if you develop worrisome issues. Your health and safety are our top priorities.
